Social Media: Impact on Students: Viewing The Social Dilemma 40 minute educational documentary

Overview:

Daniel WrightDaniel Wright, BA, is a co-producer on the documentary The Social Dilemma.  He discusses the origin of the documentary and how it is being utilized in educational settings to inform students about the dangers of social media and the impact it is having on our youth. This includes the 40 minute educational documentary (the full 90 documentary is available on Netflix)  Daniel discusses the resources that educators and parents can use to assist our youth to take charge of their social media use and not be manipulated by social media companies. Resources include mini clips that are topic specific and a Social Media Detox Tool. This is one of the recorded sessions of the November 2nd, 2021 conference.

Presenter:

Daniel Wright, BA    Daniel is an Emmy-nominated documentary producer known for THE SOCIAL DILEMMA (2020), THE HUMAN ELEMENT (2018), MAURIZIO CATTELAN: BE RIGHT BACK (2016), and RACING EXTINCTION (2015). Most recently, Wright co-produced THE SOCIAL DILEMMA, directed by Jeff Orlowski and produced by Larissa Rhodes, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and had its global release on Netflix in September 2020. 38 million households watched the film within the first 28 days of its release and it went on to receive seven Primetime Emmy Nominations including “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.”

After graduating from Colorado College with degrees in film and anthropology, Wright began working with the filmmakers behind the Academy Award-winning documentary THE COVE, on their highly anticipated second film, RACING EXTINCTION. After a premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, it had a worldwide broadcast in 220 countries and territories on the Discovery Channel and received a Primetime Emmy nomination. In 2018, Wright co-produced THE HUMAN ELEMENT, directed by Matthew Testa, which follows environmental photographer James Balog as he captures the lives of everyday Americans on the front lines of climate change. The film premiered at the SFFilm Festival and won Best Documentary at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Wright associate produced MAURIZIO CATTELAN: BE RIGHT BACK, a documentary about the provocative and elusive career of Italian contemporary artist, Maurizio Cattelan. The film premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival and was called “uproarious and thought-provoking” by The New York Times. Previous credits include Robert Kenner’s MERCHANTS OF DOUBT, and THE GAME CHANGERS, directed by Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wright lives in Denver, Colorado.
