Since there are students in our schools being raised by their grandparents for various reasons, this webinar gives school nurses resources to assist these grandparents with legal, financial and support group information.

Objectives:

LEARNING OUTCOMES:  After this webinar, school nurses will be able to

1 Describe directing grandparents raising grandchildren to a web site that will enable them to better understand the   assistance they may be able to obtain.

2. Identify what the MA commission has done and how best to assist the grandparents of todays challenges.

3.  Identify services that may be available and applicable for students being raised by grandparents.


Presenter:

Carole Ann Butze has been her grandson’s authorized caregiver for over three years. She has taken various grandchildren into her home on different occasions to help stabilize their home life because it really does take a village to raise children Her past work experience includes school nursing and administrator of the nursing department in Billerica. She retired in order to take care of her twin grandsons in 2016. One of the boys has since returned home.

She has written several grants for the Billerica Public Schools and the Billerica Prevention of Substance Abuse. She volunteers on a number of projects including Stand up for Kids, Billerica Council on Aging, two Billerica Food banks and serves as a Commissioner for the Status of Grandparents raising grandchildren.. She belongs to an online support groups for grandparents raising grandchildren. Carole is currently working part time as a clinical instructor for a practical nurse program This is her nineteenth year in that capacity

Education – Carole started her nursing career as an associate degree nurse from MCC. She went on for her BSN followed by M.Ed. She was also a national board certified nurse in School nursing.
