Objectives:

1.  Understand the prevalence and occurrence of pain in the population of students with Individualized Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs).
2.  List three ways in which students with IDDs display pain that is different than ways in which neurotypical students may display pain.
3.  Name seven methods of pain assessment that may be helpful in the school setting.
4.  Identify three methods of pain assessment most helpful for the population of students with IDDs.


Presenter:
 
Brenna Pic new Dr. Morse is a faculty member of the Solomont School of Nursing, University of Massachusetts Lowell and the current president of the National Board for Certification of School Nurses. She has earned board certification as a family nurse practitioner, certified nurse educator, pain management nurse, and nationally certified school nurse. Dr. Morse has been studying pain in children with complex conditions for over a decade. Her current project involves developing pain trainings for health care professionals so we may readily identify and treat pain in children and form meaningful partnerships with their families and caregivers.
