Objectives:

After viewing the program, the participant will be able to;

  • List two antecedents of students purchasing counterfeit cosmetics.
  • Differentiate irritant and allergic contact dermatitis.
  • Identify the offending cosmetic product precipitating the contact dermatitis based on student presentation.
  • Describe interventions to address cosmetic contact dermatitis.
  • List three student teaching points to aid students in avoiding harmful products.

Presenter:

Brenna Pic new Brenna Morse (formerly Quinn) is an Associate Professor in the Solomont School of Nursing, Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. A doctorally prepared nurse researcher, she also holds three board certifications: Nationally Certified School Nurse (National Board for Certification of School Nurses), Certified Nurse Educator (National League for Nursing), and Pain Management Nurse (American Nurses Credentialing Center). Dr. Morse currently provides direct nursing care to children with intellectual disabilities (ID) and complex conditions on a part-time basis outside of her duties as a faculty member.  She has presented research related to pediatric pain and school health internationally. Morse conducts both team and independent research related to pain in children in both the community and acute-care settings. Morse is also involved in quality improvement and original research aiming to improve experiences for children and families with ID at Boston Children’s Hospital. In the community setting, she is currently conducting a study with parents of children with complex needs to:

  1. ascertain parents’ perceived characteristics of child pain experiences,
  2. determine the extent to which parents feel caregivers adequately address pain, and
  3. identify ways in which pain collaboration between parents and caregivers may be improved.

Outside of her clinical research areas, Morse takes interest in examining theory-guided research and student success in nursing programs.  Dr. Quinn has just been inducted as a Fellow for the National Association of School Nurses in 2022.
