Presenter:
Matthew Hickling, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC is a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience across developmental pediatrics, primary care, and school health systems. He began his career in pediatric intensive care, oncology, and emergency medicine, where he developed a strong clinical foundation and deep appreciation for multidisciplinary, team-based care. Matthew most recently served as a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Davin Healthcare, where he led nursing and clinical strategy, aligning frontline care with system-level innovation, quality, and operational performance. In parallel, he served as a Medical Director for a public school district in New York State, one of the few individuals to hold a dedicated clinical leadership role of its kind. In this capacity, he led district-wide initiatives to strengthen student health services, chronic disease management, emergency preparedness, and care coordination, earning Project ADAM Heart Safe School designation and advancing collective care team models that integrate healthcare, education, and families.
Clinically, Matthew continues to practice in Developmental Pediatrics, caring for children with autism, ADHD, and complex behavioral health needs. His work is grounded in bridging gaps between healthcare systems, schools, and community-based services. He is actively collaborating with local hospital systems to develop and expand telehealth models for students and families, addressing increasingly acute access challenges in underserved and rural communities. In addition, Matthew serves as a consultant and mentor to medical directors and school nurse leaders across the country, supporting leadership development, program design, and system-level innovation. He has also earned his School Nurse Leadership Certification through NEUSHA. A dedicated educator, Matthew serves as an adjunct clinical instructor at Russell Sage College and Maria College, mentoring nursing students and future nurse practitioners. He is a strong advocate for nursing advancement, workforce development, and innovation in care delivery, with a particular focus on AI integration and data-driven policy. Matthew serves on the Board of Directors for the New York State Association of School Nurses (NYSASN) and presents nationally on pediatric care, school health leadership, and interdisciplinary models of care. He is a vocal proponent of full practice authority for nurse practitioners, improved school health staffing models, and a zero-tolerance approach to workplace violence in healthcare. He holds a Master of Science in Nursing from SUNY Stony Brook, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration from Castleton State College.
