Lorena Gaskill MN, BA, RN
Ms. Gaskill has over 35 years of nursing experience in diverse patient populations across the life span and across clinical settings. Lorena was an anthropology major at the University of Montana when she decided to use that knowledge and apply it to nursing. After completing her BA, she went on to earn her BSN with distinction from Montana State University and began her career at the Wadsworth VA in West LA. Her early career included positions in emergency and critical care nursing where she has held certifications in Emergency nursing and Neuroscience nursing. After graduating from University of California in Los Angeles with Honors, Ms. Gaskill became the first Emergency Services Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Twin Cities area at a large community hospital network. Her constant desire to learn and grow as a nurse lead her to work weekends and evenings at a nearby emergency room which managed high volume pediatric medical and trauma patients. She then moved to the east coast and spent the next 8 years at the National Institutes of Health as a Neuroscience Clinical Nurse Specialist focusing on improving quality of nursing care and research on the four neurological units at the Clinical Center. After moving to Hawaii in 2003, she took on a new direction in her career by becoming the school nurse for a pre K-12 private college prep school where she managed 1500 students while growing the health program throughout the school and the community. After 13 years of school nursing, Ms. Gaskill became an Adjunct Instructor at Chaminade University of Honolulu for 10 months before joining CUH as a full time Assistant Professor where she is currently the course coordinator of Nursing Care of Children and Families and lecturer in Health Assessment. She is the faculty advisor for the Student Nurse Association and is involved with many community outreach programs including Hawaii Children and Youth Day.
Ms. Gaskill is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The University of Pennsylvania where she hopes to focus on assisting children and families with the transition from pediatric to adult health care. Her aspirations are to achieve her DNP and continue to teach and inspire the next several generations of nurses.
Ms. Gaskill lives in Honolulu with her husband Ian, an oncologist, and their three cats. She and her husband are empty nesters as they have two sons, Ethan and Noel, who live on the mainland.
