1. Identify the SBAR framework as a tool to enhanceHealth Office communication and increase school nurse confidence.
2. Choose the correct SBAR template specificallydesigned for use in communicating with first responders, healthcare providers, administrators, and parents
3. Generate an appropriate SBAR script for two out offour Health Office scenarios


Presenter:

Pat Emmons pic Pat Emmons, BSN, RN, NCSN began her nursing career in 1981 after graduating from Fitchburg State College and is currently a Master’s degree student at Worcester State University. Pat has provided nursing care for patients across the lifespan in specialties including neurology/neurosurgery, PICU, private duty, home health care, and school nursing. Pat took her first School Nurse position in 1998 at the Farley Elementary School in Hudson, MA then ‘graduated’ to Hudson High School where she supported students in maintaining or improving their health so that they could achieve their personal and academic goals. She made the difficult decision to retired in the Fall of 2024. Pat also served on the Hudson Board of Health from 2008 to 2017 and volunteered with her local MRC.  She is a past member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the MTA, and MSNRN and is a current member of NASN/MSNO. She describes herself as a lifelong learner and, through her Master’s degree experience, has a discovered a new interest in simulation and communication in nursing education. She is particularly interested in Professional Development for nurses new to the specialty of school nursing.

Pat is married and lives in Hudson. She has a son who lives in Denver with his husband and loves visiting them and her grandpuppy.
