Objectives:
After watching this program, the participant will be able to
- Be able to identify 3 specific neurotransmitter targets for psychotropic medications (serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine)
- Be able to describe the purpose, anticipated response, and potential side effects for 3 specific classes of psychotropic (stimulants, antidepressants, and antipsychotics/mood stabilizers)
- Increase confidence in their ability to monitor students taking psychiatric medications for potential side effects
Presenter:
Anne Marie Mingolelli, DNP, PMHNP-BC, APRN-BC, RN is a Nurse Practitioner certified to provide psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and adults. She received her MSN and NP certification in Adult Primary Care Medicine from Simmons College and her CAGS and NP certification in Family Psychiatric Medicine from Northeastern University. She also received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Northeastern University. Dr. Mingolelli has worked in the mental health field for many years, providing both psychopharmacological services and therapy for a variety of psychiatric illnesses. In addition, she has participated in clinical trials for new drug investigations. Prior to her work in this area, she provided both primary care and occupational medical care to adolescents and adults in the hospital, urgent care, and clinic settings. Additionally, she has worked as a certified school nurse for over fifteen years, attaining an educational licensure and gaining extensive experience in the educational setting, including the field of special education. Anne used responses from the NEUSHA Newsletter Survey in helping to create content for this program.
