Objectives:
After the presentation, the participant may be able to:
1. Identify the most common pathogens causing urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs), and respiratory tract infections (RTIs)
2. Develop an appropriate empiric treatment plan for a patient’s infection based on risk factors
3. Modify an empiric regimen or start a definitive therapy based on culture data and/or patient progress
Presenter:
Brandon Dionne is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Health Systems Sciences at the Northeastern University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Dionne earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Southern Maine and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of New England. He completed residency training, including a PGY2 in infectious diseases, at the University of New Mexico. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with Added Qualifications in Infectious Diseases, Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist, and American Academy of HIV Medicine-certified HIV Pharmacist. Dr. Dionne is an active member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. His teaching, research, and patient care activities focus on antimicrobial stewardship and the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. Dr. Dionne currently practices as a Clinical Pharmacist in Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
