Presenter:
Julianne Evangelista, DNP, APRN, CPNP-AC, FAHA is a pediatric nurse practitioner in the Benderson Family Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. She joined BCH as an NP in General Surgery from 1990-1992, left and began her journey in pediatric cardiology at Tufts NEMC from 1992-1996. She returned to BCH in 1997. She obtained both her BSN and MS with Distinction in Nursing at Boston College Connell School of Nursing and completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2010 at The George Washington University, School of Medicine. Her Capstone project was the implementation of Independent PNP cardiology clinics at Boston Children’s Hospital. In response to a gap in available appointments, she was able to represent qualitative research that supported the establishment of Independent NP clinics with documentation of high levels of patient satisfaction and increased appointment access. Currently, the senior NP group is responsible for assessing 1/3 or 31% of the entire outpatient cardiology clinic volume of 24K annual visits. In her current position, she is responsible for the diagnosis, management and treatment of children with congenital and acquired heart disease. She has published numerous abstracts and manuscripts on the subject of pediatric cardiology and has presented at local, national, and international professional meetings concerning children with congenital heart disease. She maintains an adjunct faculty position at Boston College’s Graduate Connell School of Nursing and serves as both a guest lecturer and preceptor and holds the designation of Visiting Professor at Boston College Connell School of Nursing. She is a teacher and mentor to the BCH Cardiology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship. Juli-anne is the Past President of the Northeast Pediatric Cardiology Nursing Association (NPCNA). NPCNA, founded in 1983, is a nationally recognized provider of specialty educational programs for pediatric cardiovascular nursing. Twice she has been the recipient of Boston’s Best Nurses chosen by the Boston Globe’s Salute to Nurses and is a former member of the American Nurses Association American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Content Expert Panel. Juli-anne is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Alpha Chi Chapter and was induced into the George Washington University Nursing Honor Society. Juli-anne is a member of the American Heart Association (AHA), American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing and Appointed Member of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Nursing Committee. She was inducted as a Fellow in the AHA in 2013.
